Pastor John and his wife, Dianne, started Grace River on Easter Sunday of 2005 with a handful of families meeting in a movie theatre. Today, Pastor John leads our church as the Senior Pastor with the same passion to see every generation experience the transforming power of God in every area of their lives.
Dear Grace River Family,
As we step into May, the lilies may be fading and the Easter baskets packed away, but the power of the resurrection is anything but seasonal. Resurrection is not just a past event—it is a present reality and a daily invitation to see God's transforming power at work in our lives.
The Apostle Paul reminds us in Romans 6:4 (ESV): “We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.”
That “newness of life” isn’t reserved for Easter Sunday—it’s for every morning we wake up with breath in our lungs and purpose in our steps.
Keep Looking for Signs of the Resurrection
In a world still marked by brokenness, discouragement, and division, resurrection shows up in surprising places:
In the forgiveness extended, when bitterness would be easier.
In the joy found amid grief.
In a fresh start for someone who thought their story was over.
Remember what the angels told the women at the tomb in Luke 24:5; “Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but has risen.” They weren’t just giving directions—they were redirecting expectations. We often look for hope in places where death still reigns. But the Resurrected Christ invites us to look where life is breaking through.
Three Action Steps for Living the Resurrection in May
Practice Resurrection Awareness
Each day, pause and ask: Where do I see signs of resurrection today?
Look for moments of grace, growth, and God's hand at work. Start a short “Resurrection Journal” and write down daily signs of life and transformation—big or small.
Be a Resurrection Voice
Speak life where there’s despair. Encourage someone who’s struggling. Share a testimony of what God has recently resurrected in your life—whether it’s a healed relationship, renewed purpose, or restored hope.
Join Where New Life Is Happening
Resurrection is often active. Volunteer with a ministry, sign up for a new small group, or help someone in need. As James 2:17 says, “Faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.” New life grows where faith takes action.
Let us be a people marked not only by belief in the resurrection, but by participation in it. May this month be filled with open eyes, awakened hearts, and renewed steps as we follow our Risen Savior—together.
He is risen—still. He is risen—indeed.
With Resurrection Hope,
Pastor John McCloud
